This growing up stuff never stops, I tell ya. I’m so proud of your courage, sobrina, doing this adventure sober peels even more layers away til it’s just you…and you sure are a good one. Love the healthy stuff you’re doing. It’ll benefit you sooooooo much. If you don’t do the self searching now, it’ll sneak up on you when in a few decades from now and kick your ass, so I’m applauding you, your strong foundation and bright beautiful spirit. Love you with all my heart!
Hey Izzy, my brother David just shared with me the link to your journey story. You are not only a beautiful writer, but brave, insightful, vulnerable and powerful. I so appreciate your words, the music you share, the photos and the look into this journey you are taking. Oh, and of course you're fun - alcohol ain't go nothing to do with it. Biggest hugs and kudos to you for taking the time now for this period of introspection and growth. You're amazing. Denise Hardesty
Thanks for sharing this Izzy! So impactful. I can relate to so much of what you wrote. While never a big drinker as an adult, I too relied on it more often than I care to admit to blunt social anxiety or distract my brain from the stressors of life. I stopped all alcohol about 6 months ago and have never felt better. Sleep is better. Anxiety is down. Overall health improved. There are so many delicious non-alcoholic beers and spirits available now as the non-alcoholic market gains popularity. Keep on the journey Izzy. Keep sharing your light. Love you so much. Uncle Eddie
Izzy , LOVE your vulnerability. Yes, celebrate the small wins- 1 month! … and I think you nailed it with this post…, we all struggle with it… the rhetorical question…
“how is alcohol getting in the way of my happiness?”
Because, if you take out the word, “alcohol” and substitute any “vice du jour” (drugs, sex , smoking, relationships, work-a-alcoholic, food, greed envy pride, gossip etc etc.) all of us Homo sapiens suffer ‘em . *btw, Homo sapiens means thinking man in Latin, ironic eh?
So what do we ‘thinking men & women’ do? Holly Whitaker sounds like she’s got it going on…
I’m more of a Walt Whitman fan… based on my ‘experience of not drinking’ , I try to channel my inner Walt Whitman… “be curious, not judgmental”.
It’s a powerful reminder to stay open and compassionate in our interactions
Remember, it’s a journey, being kind to yourself along the way as crucial. I know your vulnerability will create connection.. you’re taking a positive step approaching your journey with curiosity and an open mind… you are finding your true North. Keep it up!
-love, dad
PS . When you find your true North, please let me know because I need help finding mine. :-)
